Do you want to help save the redwoods? There is an ongoing effort to protect an old-growth forest in Mendocino County from logging right now! The site is west of Willits, in exactly the same location as the fictional Big Tree Grove on Huckleberry Ranch in OPERATION REDWOOD. You can read more about it in the San Francisco Chronicle article (click here), or help Save The Redwoods League purchase this important property.
OPERATION REDWOOD is chosen by the Library of Congress to represent California during the National Book Festival in Washington, D.C.!

OPERATION REDWOOD wins the Carol D. Reiser Book Award given annually to the children’s book published the preceding year that most effectively inspires community service and volunteerism in children. Thank you to the Metro Atlanta Corporate Volunteer Council, which donated $1,000 to Save the Redwoods League as part of the award!

September 29, September 30, October 3, and October 4, 2009, National Geographic will be airing "Climbing Redwood Giants," the story of the world's tallest trees and the people who climb them. Check out the amazing story of real-life redwood climbers! I went to a screening of Climbing Redwood Giants and it's fabulous -- it covers both Steve Sillett's tree canopy research and Mike Fay's journey along the entire length of the redwood forest. And check out the October 2009 issue of National Geographic, starring the COASTAL REDWOODS! Great resource for families and teachers!
